Wiki

Wikis can be very helpful when researching or collaborating data. However, the simple fact that anyone can put this information together AND edit it makes me wonder just how accurate most of these things are...

LibraryThing

Wow, LibraryThing is like a virtual bookshelf/library...you can catalog up to 200 books for free! I like the fact that I can share my library or keep it private. It was enlightening being able to view my peers' findings.

Thoughts on Library 2.0

Library 2.0 is definitely changing the library. There are so many new ways to find and share knowledge through technology. It is a bit overwhelming at first as we try to accept the changing times. It has become more appearant that customers perfer accessing the internet rather than using the catalog or approaching the Reference desk.

Overall, it is exciting but a bit disappointing in a way. Everything is being done using computers and the latest technology. It kind of makes me think what will happen to the future of libraries. The major challenge is staying abroad all these new outcomes and making efficient use of it all!

Thing 11: Tagging My (Hobby) Blog

My favorite thing to do (when I find the time) is go to the beach and relax. I love the warm weather, bright sunshine and the laid back atmosphere the beach has to offer. It's very helpful when you've been working or studying all week! I don't like coldness at all so the heat helps me to mellow out for a while.

del.icio.us

Very appealing concept…However, I have a hard time envisioning myself using this tool anytime soon. The only imaginable way I could see myself taking advantage of del.icio.us is if I was in a scenario where I used many different computers. Then, it would be useful to have all my bookmarks saved in one place. For now, I’ll have fun browsing through other bookmarks on the site (which can be fun because so far I’ve found some interesting articles, etc.).

Technology On The Rise

Just when you thought the Apple iPhone was the hottest commodity, here we are again nearly a year later getting ready to embrace the release of a much faster iPhone. On Monday, June 9th, 2008 Apple announced the new 3G iPhone that will be available worldwide starting on July 11th. The new phone will be 36% faster than its top rival, the Nokia N95 Smartphone. The new, highly anticipated iPhone will allow users up to six hours of web browsing and five hours of talk time…let’s see how well Apple did the second time around. For those of you have own the iPhone, feel free to share your thoughts!

Trading Card

It was so hard for me to find an image that not only worked but fit the description of my trading card. The end result turned out okay...it wasn't my favorite but it did work. There were a lot of neat cards that other library staff all over the world created.

Exploring Flickr

I've recently found a new passion in my life...and it all started when I was asked to do a favor for someone. I had to take care of a relative's parrot for a week; By the time they came back I didn't want to return their parrot. I had unknowingly grown attached to their pet. I immediately told myself I was going to get my own before I gave theirs back.

Well, the process wasn't so easy. I did my share of research and found out it is much better to get a baby bird from a private breeder rather than in the store where they live in large amounts and lack personal attention. Also, babies eventually grow on you because of all the attention you put forth. Rather than buying an adult bird, in which case they are harder to train. To make a long story short, I ended up purchasing not one, but two, baby Quaker parrots. They are the joy of my life! I have to hand-feed them 4 times a day...they are truly like little babies. All they do is eat and sleep (for now).

Setting Up a Blog/Creating a New Posting

I definitely enjoyed setting up a blog. It’s something I’ve attempted before but now that I followed through with this exercise I found it to be very exciting. You can customize everything to the way you like it which is great!

Thing 2: Lifelong Learning

This was very interesting however, I found that the slides took too long to be changed and I read faster than the voice reading to me. I enjoyed reading on my own and taking notes.

Overall, learning can be a bit overwhelming; especially with how fast paced technology is moving these days. I find it necessary to be up to date with all the latest and greatest (importantly because it is a high demand by our customers!). If you have fun with it then learning is not so bad!

The easiest of the 7 ½ habits for me would be a tough choice between teaching and mentoring others and play…I love working with other people and having fun with new ideas at the same time. I would say the hardest is beginning with the end in mind. Setting goals are somewhat easy once you make up your mind but sticking to it is the difficult part.
